Academic Support

Sydney Business School, University of Wollongong offers many services to ensure you succeed with us.

Learning Development

Learning Development offers a range of free services to all enrolled students to improve their academic performance or English language skills. There are a number of workshops available including: essay and report writing, critical reading for assignments, effective referencing, grammar, study skills and exam preparation. Given that the semesters are only short, you need to learn quickly what is required when studying in an Australian university and develop your academic capacities.

Individual consultations are also available to discuss a student's academic work - appointment are essential. This can be face-to-face, online, Skype, or by telephone. Please bear in mind that this is a teaching service, not a proof reading service.

For individual consultations at the Sydney CBD Campus, students can contact Joanne Dearlove on +61 2 8536 2000 or email For individual consultations at the Wollongong Campus, students can contact Leanne Emmett on +61 2 4221 3977 or email

Peer Assisted Study Sessions (PASS)

PASS (Peer Assisted Study Sessions) is a free academic assistance program that utilises peer-led group study to help students succeed. The sessions are facilitated by PASS Leaders, current students who have already successfully completed the subject. Think “Super Group” learning! Sessions are designed to maximise students’ understanding of the subject, in a casual and relaxed environment. The sessions also integrate study tools and successful exam techniques specific to that course.

PASS Commences from Week 1. Each subject has 2 x 1 hour sessions. To see what PASS sessions are available in the current trimester, visit: PASS (Peer Assisted Study Sessions)

Peer Academic Coaches / International Student Ambassador

The Learning Co-Op provides online resources to support students with their learning.

On campus we have students who can provide peer to peer support and connection in several ways including as an Peer Academic Coach / International Student Ambassador (PAC/ISA). These students are senior, high achieving UOW students, who can help you with Moodle, understanding referencing, approaching assignments, effective studying techniques, exam preparation and more. As ISAs, they are also available to help you build a strong network that will support you through your studies. This may mean anything from connecting with other students, helping you access support services, social and wellbeing opportunities or just having a chat!

No appointments are necessary and Peer Academic Coaching is free.

You can also talk to a PAC online or face to face during session.
